Congratulations to Richard and Jan for 35 Years of Pirtek

Congratulations to Richard and Jan from Pirtek Adelaide on achieving the milestone of 35 years!

Their story starts in 1988 when they moved from New Zealand to Adelaide to open the first Pirtek Franchise in South Australia.

Here is their story in their own words to commemorate the journey so far…

“1988 was our year. We were given the opportunity to move from New Zealand to Adelaide to start a Pirtek Franchise in South Australia.

We fell in love with the city of Adelaide and in early 1989 with our three children and a dog plus five suitcases we waved goodbye to family and friends and jumped the ditch as the saying goes.

It was such a big adventure for all of us. We rented a workshop at Regency Park, Richard and the boys set to it and built an office and showroom within it. We put an ad in the paper for two technicians and started trading three weeks later.

I was the office girl & the fetch and carry. I had to work my way around a computer for the first time and every other day I would ring our accountant in Sydney and say “Trevor, I think I need to go do a course or something”, he just said - keep banging away on the keys Jan, you’ll be right.

Over the years we developed further into SA, including, Mt Gambier, Roxby Downs, Whyalla, and just last year into Elizabeth, it’s been wonderful to see the development of these businesses and the people within.

We have enjoyed so many wonderful customers over the years and built some incredible pieces of equipment with them, It is never a surprise to hear of something new or strange that we have repaired and kept it operating.

We are very thankful to our customers, our vendors, Pirtek group office and all our staff who have been committed and loyal to the brand and our businesses.

It has been of great pleasure to have our children with us all the way and have Andrew now as General Manager taking our businesses and teams on to the next chapter!”
